Dr. Tessa DesRochers is responsible for managing all research and development within Kiyatec, including all government contracts and grants, external collaborations, and internal preclinical and clinical assay development. Before joining the company, Tessa was in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University where she developed bioengineered 3D models of human kidney tissue and breast cancer with applications in the areas of nephrotoxicology, disease modeling, and infectious disease. She has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in the area of tissue engineering and disease applications, has presented a number of abstracts at multiple scientific meetings, and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for several peer-reviewed journals.

As a “military brat,” Tessa grew up in numerous locations, including California, England, and Ohio, before her family settled in New Hampshire. She attended the University of New Hampshire where she graduated cum laude with a BS in biochemistry. She received her PhD from Tufts University’s Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences in cell, molecular, and developmental biology where her thesis focused upon epigenetic gene regulation in a 3D model of human skin. Her postdoctoral training included a year at Children’s Hospital in Boston and subsequent training in the lab of Dr. David Kaplan at Tufts University. Tessa is committed to the development of 3D tissues as better models of human development and disease.

As Vice President of Operations for Kiyatec, Melissa Rayner oversees laboratory and facility operations as well as market access and reimbursement. With an impressive career spanning nearly 30 years, Melissa brings extensive expertise in research, including 19 years focused on plant genetics, molecular genetics, and human genetics along with 9 years of oncology laboratory management experience. She is also a contributing author for numerous peer-reviewed articles in the fields of hereditary diseases and oncology.

In her previous roles, including Director of Laboratory Operations at Selah Genomics and the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics, Melissa has demonstrated a remarkable track record. Her accomplishments include obtaining CLIA, CAP, and state laboratory certifications, managing facility relocations and renovations, and ensuring successful medical billing for clinical assays.

A proud graduate of the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, Melissa also graduated magna cum laude with a BS in biology from North Carolina Central University and received her MS in biotechnology regulatory affairs at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Since 2014, she has held certifications as a technologist in molecular biology from the American Society for Clinical Pathology and a molecular pathology technologist license from the State of Florida Division of Medical Quality Assurance. Melissa’s commitment to excellence and her extensive experience make her a valuable asset to the Kiyatec team.

In his most recent role as Senior Sales Director at Myovant Sciences, he played a crucial role in building the initial sales team and launching a novel prostate cancer treatment.
